The VR Gobi is used to analyze multi-dimensional dataset using a 3D scatterplot representation inside a CAVE. A wireframe cube represents the limits of the data volume where each datapoint is represented as a sphere. Each cartesian coordinate encoding an attribute.
Navigation is done by physical movement inside the CAVE since the data volume is centred in the physical room. For the other interactions a combination of dataglove and wand is used. For instance, the user can select a color, size, and shape through a pointing gesture on the floating 3D menu which allow him to “paint” datapoint similar to his selection by “brushing” on top of them with his hand. Moreover, the size of the representation can be changed by grabbing the limit of the data volume. Last, the user can record the current state of the visualization by a button press on the wand so he can resume his work later on.
